Wisdom, Resources, Advocacy, Parent to Parent Support

Project CARE:  SPAN Family Resource Specialists are stationed part-time at the 21 Special Child Health Services/Case Management Units. They provide information and advocacy on family rights in the early intervention and special education processes, and resources such as parent support groups and respite care. They support families at IEP meetings, health care appointments, and hospital visits, and help families resolve conflicts with school and healthcare staff and health insurance companies. They work to improve family engagement at all levels, early and continuous screening, access to a "medical home" that coordinates all needed care and to easily accessible community-based services, adequate insurance to cover needed care, and effective transition to adult systems of care.

Parent to Parent, a collaboration with the Family Support Center of NJ, is a statewide network of parents supporting families of children with developmental delays, disabilities, and special health needs.

As trained supporting parents, we offer emotional support and information, and act as a valuable resource to families. We offer assistance in learning the necessary skills to help parents face the challenges of raising their child.

Family Voices - New Jersey informs families and professionals about public and private health care changes in our state. We also share the expertise and experiences of families with policy makers, the media, health professionals and other families. We serve on state and local boards and task forces. We bring the family perspective to policy discussions and decisions.
